Importing Arc into Dia
Dia is made by the same company as Arc and has the only official importer. Steps below are from the Arc Help Center.
Steps
- Download Dia from diabrowser.com/download.
- When Dia asks which browser to import from, choose Arc. Already using Dia? Mac: Dia > Import from Another Browser… > Arc. Windows: app menu > Import from another browser… > Arc.
- Pick the extensions to install.
- Windows: quit Arc first, or Dia shows a “Cookies file locked” message.
- Keep Arc installed until the import finishes, and do it before Dec 22, 2026.
What comes over
- Each Space → a Dia Profile (same order and colors)
- Favorites → icon-only pinned tabs
- Pinned tabs, custom tab names
- Folders → pinned Tab Groups
- GitHub Live Folders → Live Groups
- Bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, extensions, open tabs
What doesn't
- Nested folders are flattened: folders inside folders become their own Tab Groups.
- Easels and Boosts (alternatives).
- Saved payment methods and autofill data.
Importing doesn't change anything in Arc. If you want a safety net anyway, also run Arc's Export Data.
FAQ
Does Dia keep Arc Spaces?
Each Space becomes a Dia Profile you can swipe between, per the Arc Help Center. It's a different model from Arc's in-window Spaces.
Why are my nested folders flat in Dia?
Dia doesn't nest Tab Groups, so each sub-folder becomes its own group. That's documented behavior, not a bug.
Does importing into Dia delete my Arc data?
No. It copies data; Arc is unchanged until it stops working on Dec 22, 2026.

Want it done in one sitting?
Everything above is free. If you'd rather follow one checklist with tested scripts (Mac and Windows) and a verification step, the Arc Migration Kit is $12 with a 30-day refund. You don't need it if the free route works for you.
