Moving from Arc to Chrome, Edge or Brave

These are all Chromium browsers like Arc, so your Chrome extensions keep working. None of them imports Arc's Spaces or sidebar folders, though. Go through a bookmarks file.

Steps

  1. Back up first. Copy StorableSidebar.json somewhere safe (where it lives).
  2. Run Arc's Export Data. Mac: Arc > Settings > Advanced > Export Data. Windows: Ctrl+, then Advanced > Export Spaces and tabs > Export Data. You get Arc Data Export.md, a list of links per Space.
  3. Turn the sidebar into a bookmarks HTML file with an open-source converter such as arc-export (unofficial; read it before running), or with the kit's script.
  1. Import the HTML file: Chrome: Bookmarks > Import bookmarks and settings > Bookmarks HTML file. Edge: Settings > Profiles > Import browser data > Favorites or bookmarks HTML file. Brave: brave://settings/importData > Bookmarks HTML File.
  2. Passwords: export them from Arc to CSV, then import the CSV into the new browser's password manager. Delete the CSV afterwards; it's plain text.

Where do Spaces go?

All three have vertical tabs and split view; details and sources on the Chrome, Edge and Brave pages.

FAQ

Can Chrome import Arc directly?

Chrome's importer doesn't read Arc's sidebar. A bookmarks HTML file is the reliable path.

Will my Arc extensions work in Chrome, Edge or Brave?

They're all Chromium, so Chrome Web Store extensions install. You reinstall them; settings inside each extension may not carry over.

Want it done in one sitting?

Everything above is free. If you'd rather follow one checklist with tested scripts (Mac and Windows) and a verification step, the Arc Migration Kit is $12 with a 30-day refund. You don't need it if the free route works for you.
